Euro-Argo Contribution
Euro-Argo ERIC is third-party to the project. The ERIC coordinates the European component of Argo, which is a key in-situ oceanographic network for operational applications. As such, it is a major data provider and natural partner of the Copernicus Services.
Within the COINS SC3 project, Euro-Argo will organise a workshop gathering the Entrusted Entities in charge of delivering the Marine and Climate Copernicus Services, namely EEA, Mercator Ocean International (MOI), the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and the European Space Agency (ESA). The objectives of the workshop will be to (1) discuss the OneArgo data specificities, needs and gaps identified by the Copernicus Services, (2) develop scenarios allowing a timely response to the needs of the services, and (3) provide a rationale as well as data to advocate for EU complementary funding to support the implementation of OneArgo. The workshop is meant to be a pilot exercise that could be repeated with other relevant European research infrastructures. In this context, Euro-Argo ERIC ensures the liaison and interplay with the EU-funded GEORGE project and consortium, which includes EMSO ERIC and ICOS ERIC.
The ERIC also contributed to a Research Infrastructure Brief template and drafted a Euro-Argo ERIC Brief that can be used by COINS/EEA to raise awareness and strengthen the connection and exchange of information between RIs, Copernicus Entrusted Entities, and the European Commission.
