As a contribution to the Ocean Literacy movement, the collection was launched in 2019. It will run throughout the UN Ocean Decade and seeks to foster Ocean Science education amongst the young generation. Via The Ocean Collection, children and adolescents (aged 8 to 15) have access to articles written by scientists and covering a broad spectrum of ocean disciplines. Moreover, and prior to publication, all manuscripts have been reviewed by children and adolescents with the help of science mentors.
