Adopt a float webinar: 2 April 2025

The “adopt a float” educational program scales up to the European level to bring ocean sciences into the classrooms. It invites educators to its first English-language webinar. Interested to learn more about Argo floats underwater robots and Ocean sciences? Let’s meet on Wednesday 2nd April, 2PM!

The adopt a float educational program scales up its European dimension! Initially launched in the South of France, the initiative continues to expand across various European countries in the framework of the Euro-Argo ONE Project. This new impulse seeks to engage a broader community of educators –particularly school teachers and students– in ocean science learning. This key milestone kicks off with the first online teachers’ meeting, conducted in English, on Wednesday, 2nd April 2025, 2PM (UTC+2).

The meeting "Biology, physics, chemistry, and maths at sea: autonomous measurements of water quality as motivation for science Learning" will be led by Professor Colin Stedmon (Technical University of Denmark).
It aims to showcase how the data collected by Argo floats can be used to teach core scientific principles. By connecting ocean observations to schools and other educational environments, this webinar aims to inspire educators to integrate ocean sciences into multidisciplinary lessons spanning STEM disciplines (science, technologies, engineering & mathematics).

The educational program adopt a float offers the opportunity to classes to “adopt” Argo floats. Therefore, each participating school class chooses an ocean region, gives a name to the “adopted” float and draws a logo to stick on it. In class, they can then access and work with the data of “their” float through an interactive map. Besides, the program offers additional educational resources, regular meetings with ocean scientists, in-class sessions with the science outreach team, webinars for teachers, and helps to connect in order to explore our Ocean and its sciences.
