A great special session about Argo floats during the Marine & Inland Waters Symposium
On September 17th-19th, Euro-Argo ERIC, represented by HCMR, OGS and the ERIC Office, joined the “Marine & Inland Waters Symposium” in Porto Heli, Argolida, Greece, with a special session on Argo floats contribution to the marine research and operational monitoring of the Mediterranean Sea – Evolution, Achievements, and Future Needs, in the framework of Euro-Argo RISE project.
All the speakers of the event.
This event is a follow up of the Argo Mediterranean and Black Seas workshop that took place in April 2021 and organised in the framework of Euro-Argo RISE project.
Sylvie Pouliquen gave an invited lecture on “In situ observations for operational services – Role of Marine RIs” in plenary session.
Dr. Dimitris Kassis and Dr. Estérine Evrard were the chairs of the special session and were conveners, together with Dr. Giulio Notarstefano.
Dr. Dimitris Kassis (HCMR), Dr. Estérine Evrard (Euro-Argo ERIC Office) and Dr. Giulio Notarstefano (OGS) were the three conveners of the special session dedicated to Argo floats.
This session highlighted the extension of the Argo network in the Mediterranean Sea and the potential of the Argo floats array to provide high-quality information on the oceanic variability, the dynamics of the physical state, and the marine ecosystems in its sub-basins, as well as its complementarity with other in situ ocean observing networks and satellites.
